When Life Comes At You...Sleep In

So, i'm watching NBC 4 Today this morning with my favorite hosts, Joe Krebs and Barbara Harrison.  They go to Megan McGrath live in Silver Spring with storm clean-up (major thunderstorms moved through DC last night...the kind of storm that, if it happened back home in Illinois, you'd go out on the front porch to sit and watch.  ANYWAY.... Megan interviews a woman who's filmed raking up her yard and cleaning up debris left after the storm.  During the interview, the woman says:

"Well, there's a tree on my husband's car, so I'll go wake him up and have him take a look at that.  Then I'll go walk around and see what trees are down."

First, she made this comment very matter-of-fact and very non-chalantly.

Second, what went through her head when she came out this morning?  I have a feeling it went something like this:

"Hmmm...that's my husband's car.  That's a large tree.  Well, I'll let him sleep in this morning."

Distressing News from Home

So, I was just talking to my friend Jodi back home in Springfield, Illinois.  She was showing me pics of the Ursuline Academy Class of 1995 reunion.  During our kibitzing, I found out that my beloved Ursuline Academy, may not be in the best health.  Only 175 students are registered for the coming academic year; the new principal just resigned; and they have no order going into this coming year.  It makes me sad.  Very sad.  I had many good years at UA and I'd hate to see it fold...especially since I've been asked to guest lecture at the drama class when school starts up.....Just not sure what I can do.

Life in the Big City

I long for the days when high drama was playing kickball and the pitcher intentionally roll the ball as hard as they could just to spite you.  Wouldn't it be nice to go back to our childhoods when a bad day could be cured by Mom fixing our favorite snacks (mine was always a half PB&J).  But alas, we've grown up.  And, unfortunately, so has the drama.

Happy Day Happy Day

Ah, the Fourth of July.  A day when we celebrate the day the Continental Congress declared America's independence from Britain (actually, that day was formally on July 2nd, but who's counting).  For so many people around the country, it means parades, cookouts, family, and, of course, fireworks.  For those of us in Washington DC, it means the 25th annual "A Capitol Fourth" celebration which also also means that the locals are gone and we're infested with tourists.

I hate tourists.  I really do.  That's really what this is about.  I can't stand them.  Every year, from May to September, we're bombarded in Washington  by tour buses, school trips and families of 6 with children under 10.  They're everywhere.  *Sigh*  I hate tourists.

Happy Fourth of July everyone.

"Sex"

I love Sex in the City.  Granted, I was a Johnny-Come-Lately to the show...mostly a consequence of being a cheap bastard and not having cable, but whateva.  Besides, by watching it on DVD, i've been able to watch 5 1/2 seasons in like 2 months.  I love it when you don't have to wait to see what happens with the cliffhangers.

I didn't promise they'd be great posts, just that i'd post..or something.

Oy Vey

Oy vey.  I've joined the blogosphere.  I'm not the first, nor shall I be the last.  Actually, i've kinda played with blogging for sometime now....with relatively little success.  Maybe this will be better.  Maybe now i'll have a captive audience with which to share my random little thoughts and bizarre opinions.  Or mayne, just maybe, i'll sit here, alone and ramble to myself inside the confines of my computer screen and no one will notice or care.

Give it some time.  I may actually turn out to have something to say.  Then again, I may just be rambling.
